 A low calorie fat free and cholesterol free veggie which contains manganese, vitamin A and C and also magnesium and potassium which regulates blood pressure. It contains lot of nutrients which helps to fight against many health problems.





Zucchini is a wonderful plant can be cultivated as a home garden plant.  It is a delicious and can eat raw or cooked.  It helps to prevent age related eyesight problems called Macular degeneration.  Now you need not go dieting for a weight loss, zucchini can help in reducing weight without dieting since it contains high fiber and water.

Don’t peel your Zucchini unless its uncomfortably tough, its beta carotene is in the peel. Use wash it thoroughly  and cut off both ends,  use it in salads and sandwiches, adds to pasta and can even use as a side dish.

Its very interesting to note that American Presidents Thomas Jefferson and George Washington both had these plants in their gardens.

Yogurt is one of the healthiest foods which boost the whole body health. In other words, a wonder working food stuff for your daily intake.

It is discovered by accident 4,000 years back when nomads stumbled upon a new way to preserve milk.  Asia, the Middle East and Mediterranean countries have enjoyed yogurt for years.  It is a very popular food in many parts of the world.  Reports say that Yogurt consumption in the United States increased considerably in the 1970’s and 1980’s.

Notice that the plain yogurt can work wonders, go for a plain one, if need little sweetness you can add your own honey for fruit. The above mentioned research says that they all used yogurt contained live bacteria.  When purchase from shops look for the label “live”, “Active” this shows the yogurt contains living bacteria, which benefits your digestive system.  Also notice that in Indian cookery people use yogurt for cooking, but heat will kill these good bugs in yogurt and gives less benefit.  So use it without cooking for obtaining the maximum benefits
It is one of the best remedy for diarrhea patients.  Diarrhea patients should eat more yogurts to get the maximum benefits.

Xenophon was Greek   soldier, historian   and a writer.  His important contributions are books about Socrates and about the Greek history.  He was born in Athens of a noble family. Though he was studied under Socrates, his main interest was military subjects than philosophy.

Xenophon, who served under the Persian King Cyrus, wrote about the turn of the fourth century B.C. expedition in his book Anabasis and about the upbringing of the Persian king in his book Cyropedia.

His book Hellenica talk about the major history of Greek from 411 to 362 BC.  His book Memorabilia and Apology tell lot of things about the Greek philosopher Socrates it is very different from the writing of Plato's accounts about Socrates.

Watermelon is a summer fruit that have sweet juicy flesh.  It contains 93 percent water and 8% sugar.

This delicious fruit is famous for its medicinal content.  It’s a very good source of potassium, magnesium, fiber and vitamins A and C.  Watermelons are eaten fresh, often in salads or as a dessert. Its rind is sometimes pickled. This sweet refreshing fruits have a serious side too, it look after your health.


It belongs to the family of pumpkins, cucumber and gourd. Its birth is in Africa and from there it spread to ancient Egypt North America.  Now world’s largest producers include China, Russia and Turkey.

It’s a great source of carotenoid lycopene, though lycopene content in watermelon is higher than tomatoes,  its content is 40% more lycopene than raw tomatoes,  the studies reveals that lycopene can prevent prostate cancer. A recent study says that men who ate more watermelon had lessened their cancer risk by 82%.
Lycopene in watermelon act as an antioxidant, neutralizing free radicals.  It can protect against other cancers like those of the breast and pancreas.  The studies also prove that the content of lycopene the carotenoid in watermelon fights cancer may also protect your heart.

It is also a good source of citrulline, an amino acid your body turns into another amino acid called arginine which acts like a Viagra, and also helps in erectile dysfunction, known as a good Aphrodite.   It also boosts your sleep and energy. 

Also the contents of potassium and magnesium and fiber help to regulate your blood pressure level.  Fiber content can lower cholesterol level.

This also helps to control your body weight.  So consume more watermelon the tasty fruit can satisfy your thirst, your tooth without hurting your waistline

Health experts say that foods with higher water content can help you lose weight. The reason is the much water content in this fruit fill your stomach and you are less likely to overeat.  It increases your metabolic rate, at which you burn calories.

One slice of watermelon has only about 86 calories and less than half a gram of fat, making it the perfect dessert.

To get more nutrition out of it, it is better to store it at room temperature. It may not be as refreshing but mind it, it will have more nutrients. So to get a bit more taste place the watermelon in the fridge for 30 minutes before slicing it.

It is proved that intake of this fruit can get a glowing look to the body skin.  It also reduces the sun related skin diseases.

Make Watermelon fruit salads or cold soups. Its juice makes refreshing beverage.  Its all parts are edible.  Some people pickle the rind and roast the seeds for a tasty snack.

Before slicing the watermelon scrub the entire outer surface under warm running water to remove surface bacteria.

Here is a very useful information I received    it today in my inbox.

I am posting it here for the benefit of my fellow beings, especially for my visitors and readers.


Honey is the only food on the planet that will not spoil or rot. What it will do is what some call 'turning to sugar'. In reality, honey is always honey. However, when left in a cool dark place for a long time it will "crystallize". When this happens loosen the lid, boil some water and sit the honey container in the hot water, but turn off the heat and let it liquefy naturally. It is then as good as it ever was. Never boil honey or put it in a microwave. This will kill the enzymes in the honey.


Cinnamon and Honey

 Bet the drug companies won't like this one getting around. Facts on Honey and Cinnamon:
It is found that a mixture of honey and Cinnamon cures most diseases. Honey is produced in most of the countries of the world.   Scientists of today, accept honey as a very effective medicine for all kinds of diseases.


Honey can be used without side effects for any kind of diseases.


Science says that even though honey is sweet, when it is taken in the right dosage as a medicine, it does not harm even diabetic patients. Weekly World News, a magazine in Canada, in its issue dated 17 January,1995 has given the following list of diseases that can be cured by honey and cinnamon, as researched by western scientists:.

ARTHRITIS:
Arthritis patients may take daily (morning and night) one cup of hot water with two tablespoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. When taken regularly even chronic arthritis can be cured. In a recent research conducted at the Copenhagen University, it was found that when the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of one tablespoon Honey and half teaspoon Cinnamon powder before breakfast, they found that within a week (out of the 200 people so treated) practically 73 patients were totally relieved of pain -- and within a month, most all the patients who could not walk or move around because of arthritis now started walking without pain.

BAD BREATH:
People of South America, gargle with one teaspoon of honey and cinnamon powder mixed in hot water first thing in the morning so their breath stays fresh throughout the day.


BLADDER INFECTIONS:
Take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it. It destroys the germs in the bladder..


CANCER:
Recent research in Japan and Australia has revealed that advanced cancer of the stomach and bones have been cured successfully. Patients suffering from these kinds of cancer should daily take one tablespoon of honey with one teaspoon of cinnamon powder three times a day for one month.


CHOLESTEROL:
Two tablespoons of honey and three teaspoons of Cinnamon Powder mixed in 16 ounces of tea water given to a cholesterol patient was found to reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10 percent within two hours. As mentioned for arthritic patients, when taken three times a day, any chronic cholesterol is cured. According to information received in the said Journal, pure honey taken with food daily relieves complaints of cholesterol.


COLDS:
Those suffering from common or severe colds should take one tablespoon lukewarm honey with 1/4 spoon cinnamon powder daily for three days. This process will cure most chronic cough, cold, and, clear the sinuses.


FATIGUE :
Recent studies have shown that the sugar content of honey is more helpful rather than being detrimental to the strength of the body. Senior citizens who take honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts are more alert and flexible. Dr.. Milton, who has done research, says that a half tablespoon of honey taken in a glass of water and sprinkled with cinnamon powder, even when the vitality of the body starts to decrease, when taken daily after brushing and in the afternoon at about 3:00 P.M., the vitality of the body increases within a week.

According to the studies done in India and Japan , it is revealed that when Honey is taken with cinnamon powder the stomach is relieved of gas.


HEART DISEASES:
Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, apply it on bread instead of jelly and jam and eat it regularly for breakfast. It reduces the cholesterol in the arteries and saves the patient from heart attack. Also, those who have already had an attack, when they do this process daily, they are kept miles away from the next attack. Regular use of the above process relieves loss of breath and strengthens the heart beat. In America and Canada , various nursing homes have treated patients successfully and have found that as one ages the arteries and veins lose their flexibility and get clogged; honey and cinnamon revitalize the arteries and the veins.


HEARING LOSS:
Daily morning and night honey and cinnamon powder, taken in equal parts restores hearing. Remember when we were kids? We had toast with real butter and cinnamon sprinkled on it!


IMMUNE SYSTEM:
Daily use of honey and cinnamon powder strengthens the immune system and protects the body from bacterial and viral attacks.. Scientists have found that honey has various vitamins and iron in large amounts. Constant use of Honey strengthens the white blood corpuscles (where DNA is contained) to fight bacterial and viral diseases.


INDIGESTION:
Cinnamon powder sprinkled on two tablespoons of honey taken before food is eaten relieves acidity and digests the heaviest of meals.

INFLUENZA :
A scientist in Spain has proved that honey contains a natural 'Ingredient' which kills the influenza germs and saves the patient from flu.


LONGEVITY :
Tea made with honey and cinnamon powder, when taken regularly, arrests the ravages of old age. Use four teaspoons of honey, one teaspoon of cinnamon powder, and three cups of water and boil to make a tea. Drink 1/4 cup, three to four times a day. It keeps the skin fresh and soft and arrests old age. Life spans increase and even a 100 year old will start performing the chores of a 20-year-old.


PIMPLES :
Three tablespoons of honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder paste. Apply this paste on the pimples before sleeping and wash it off the next morning with warm water. When done daily for two weeks, it removes all pimples from the root.


RASPY OR SORE THROAT:
When throat has a tickle or is raspy, take one tablespoon of honey and sip until gone. Repeat every three hours until throat is without symptoms.


SKIN INFECTIONS:
Applying honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts on the affected parts cures eczema, ringworm and all types of skin infections.


UPSET STOMACH:
Honey taken with cinnamon powder cures stomach ache and also clears stomach ulcers from its root.


WEIGHT LOSS:
Daily in the morning one half hour before breakfast and on an empty stomach, and at night before sleeping, drink honey and cinnamon powder boiled in one cup of water. When taken regularly, it reduces the weight of even the most obese person. Also, drinking this mixture regularly does not allow the fat to accumulate in the body even though the person may eat a high calorie diet.

Tomato is an essential vegetable ingredient in most of the cooking all over the world.  It is considered to be a native of South America; it was brought to Europe by the Spanish priests in the early 16th century.  Initially it was grown only as an ornamental plant and was called ‘love apple’. Many considered them poisonous, and also considered as a cancer culprit. Because they are related to many poisonous plants. Because of this till 1800 this was not considered as a food.  In 1860 only it was discovered as a good food or as a vegetable. Interestingly now it holds second place among vegetables, potato stands at the first place.

Later studies revealed that these are all baseless and it got nutritional value and health giving qualities. It is rich in calcium, phosphorous, vitamin C and carbohydrate, Vitamin K and A.  Another content Lycopene—a phytochemical which play and important role in preventing disease. 

Cooked tomatoes may deliver more lycopene, but raw ones have more vitamin C, and make this a regular part of your diet.  The unpeeled tomatoes give you more lycopene, beta carotene, kaempferol and quercetin.  The studies reveal that it can prevent four types of cancers.  Tomatoes can lower the risk of digestive tract cancer, pancreatic cancer, ovarian cancer, and breast cancer.

It also significantly reduce heart attack.  It is one of the most powerful deobstruents of the Meteria Medica, it removes disease particles and open natural channel of the body.  It is a good natural stimulant for kidney and helps to wash away the toxin which causes diseases. It is also a good cleanser. Take a very ripe tomato, some fresh whole milk and water then blend it and strain and remove the pulp, take the juice to an equal amount of milk, store in the refrigerator,  apply to the face and neck, once or twice a day leave it for 10 minutes and rinse. It’s a good cleanser.

Because of its low carbohydrate content it is a very good food for diabetic patients, it is very effective in controlling the percentage of sugar level in the urine.
It prevents night blindness, short sightedness and other diseases of the eye caused by the deficiency of the vitamins.

Eating a tomato early in the morning is found to be very effective in preventing formation of urinary stones.
It’s also used in treating obesity.  One or two ripe tomatoes taken early morning before breakfast for a couple of months helps reduce weight and also supplies the needed food elements to preserve the health;
A glass full of fresh tomato juice mixed with a pinch of salt and pepper taken early in the morning is considered an effective remedy for morning sickness, biliousness, sluggishness and liver disorders, jaundice, indigestion excessive formation of gas in the intestines, constipation diarrhea due to indigestion.

The juice of the whole plant including leaves mixed with equal quantity of till-oil is heated until all the watery part is evaporated and the oil is preserved in a bottle. Massaging of this oil over painful joints and sprains gives a great relief.

A recent study says that tomato based foods significantly reduced heart disease risk.  Tomato sauce and pizza were very effective. The potassium content in tomato controls the high blood pressure.

Eating more tomato prevents wrinkle and many other skin diseases.

Shakuntala Devi the human computer passed away on 21st April 2013.  She was born on November 4, 1939 in a poor family and could not get good formal education. She was admitted to St Theresa's Convent school in Chamarajpet in Karnataka for class I, but had to drop out as her parents could not afford the monthly fee of Rs 2.

Shakuntala Devi's father was a circus artist. It was once while she was playing cards with her father at the age of three that it was discovered that she is a calculating genius. When Shakuntala Devi was just 6 years old she demonstrated her calculation skills at the University of Mysore.  And in 1977, she received a standing ovation from an audience of learned mathematicians when she extracted the 23rd root of a 201-digit number in just 50 seconds. A high-powered and sophisticated computer then took 62 seconds.

The fame of her genius for numbers spread soon and on June 18, 1980, she solved the multiplication of two 13-digit numbers 7,686,369,774,870 x 2,465,099,745,779 that were randomly picked by the computer department of Imperial College in London. She came up with the answer — 18,947,668,177,995,426,462,773,730 — in 28 seconds flat, a Guinness record.

Her ability to make complex mental calculations is appreciated by many. She become a world renowned mathematical wizard also known as “Human Computer”
She died in Bangalore in a city hospital on Sunday (21st April 2013)

We learn to read in our childhood days and at a later stage we read to learn. Ok this is understandable, then why do we read even after our adulthood or our education is completed?

Is it really required after passing through such a stage of completion?

Yes, this kind of thinking stops people from reading,  please don't think that way and stop reading. In fact reading is fast diminishing in these age.  But note that, reading is one of the important activity in education.  It is a must, and should practice it very religiously.

Yes, its a continuous process and I think it should be continued till our death.

Yes, one need to read a lot to gain knowledge.  In the writing field too reading is an essential part.

Read, Read Read, and then write write write
Let this be our motto, the person who reads well
writes well.

Not only that reading adds many advantages into our life, research shows that those who are more involved in reading activity are able to concentrate on their particular subjects and they communicate well. it is confirmed that what the nutritious foods gives to the body likewise ones reading gives to his mind more and more knowledge as nutrition.

By reading secular books, of course you gain knowledge, but one thing is very important to note here is that reading Bible is my first priority in reading,  First the Word of God and then everything else.

in this modern world, what is it that you are talking about an old book or an outdated book!

No, Never it's not an outdated book my dear friend, its an up to date book, you hold Bible in one hand and hold today's newspaper in another hand and read, you will realize that what is written or appeared in the newspaper is written years back in the Bible. Many prophecies are fulfilled and many are fulfilling and many yet to fulfill That is what the Bible is!

So by reading the Bible you not only gain knowledge but also gain blessings, yes it brings blessings in one's life that he understand about the creator and his plan and purpose towards man.   Reading of it brings repentance and by that one get eternal salvation, and thereby everlasting joy.  This is the great difference one can find in this miraculous Book.   Yes, Reading the Bible reminds us of our duties, and also it produces reformation. 
The Bible says: 
"Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy  and keep those things which are written in for the time is near. (Revelation 1: 3),
